Discover Abruzzo

They say home is where the heart is. This is Abruzzo.. Imagine it being your home!

discover abruzzoAbruzzo is dotted with small centres that grew in medieval times and were often built on the previous remains of fortresses from the roman époque. Almost all of them were under the dominion of various noble families, who used them as bases for control of the communication lines, and their period of maximum splendour is even today illustrated by the nobility of the buildings and the noted artistic patrimony. Moreover, the natural scenery that surrounds these villages, towns, hermitages and abbeys is of an incomparable beauty: from the infinite space of Campo Imperatore you can descend towards the coast crossing woods, grasslands and valleys, that gradually give way to luxuriant Mediterranean vegetation.

Along the coast, the presence of welcoming beaches has favoured the development of modern seaside resorts that alternate with small inlets and rocky promontories where you will often find yourself among the ancient warning towers or the numerous still active trabocchi.

The Nature

Naure in Abruzzo takes the stage every day of the year: and every day the show is new, different, thrilling. Each season shows its colouts, expresses its perfumes, its gifts, and can be the right moment to lose yourself so you can.. find yourself.

nature - AbruzzoIn Abruzzo nature is a protected resource. With a third of its territory set aside as Park, the region not only holds a cultural and civil record for protection of the environment, but Europe: the real green heart of the Mediterranean.

It would be difficult to underestimate the national and international importance of the Abruzzo Parks in protection of the environment and of biodiversity, bearing in mind that 75% of all Europe’s flora and fauna species are represented in this region!

The sheer range of Abruzzo’s natural habitats (marine, river and lake, woods, mountains, high altitude) means that today, more than ever, the region is a sort of wonderful biolaboratory that protects nature and ecosystems.

Holidays in Abruzzo

The growing development of active, sports and adventure tourism is a challenge that Abruzzo has met by playing its trump cards of strong nature, unspoiled territories, bearcountless trails through gullies, torrents, castles, retreats, peaks, highlands, woods, ancient villages: a thrilling mix for very much out-of-the-ordinary holidays.

Anyone who wants hands-on contact with the environment should definitely explore the exciting options to be found in Abruzzo: there is no doubt that the region’s hardy nature offers the most complete range of changing environments, both in summer and in the winter.

Coming to Abruzzo in all four seasons also means being able to practice and cultivate a series of very unique and satisfying hobbies: watching animals in their natural habitat, birdwatching, photo safaris, gathering wild fruit, mushrooms, truffles, investigating the places and periods when the region’s most unusual typical products are to be discovered.

Gastronomy

Abruzzo cousine is multifaceted simply because of how varied the region and its cultures are. On the one hand, there is the evolution of shepherding and farming recipes, those prepared by the “poor” folk of the mountain and foothill areas, a cuisine of simple yet tasty mutton dishes, soups and broths, cheeses and herbs; on the other, the “refined bourgeois” menus of Teramo, which enhance basic flavours to achieve more elaborate results: “timballo di scrippelle”, “mazzarelle”, “virtù”. Then there is shoreline cuisine, less evocative of Abruzzo – perceived as a region of mountains and protected areas – but not less important, as there are 130 km of coast that offer a variety of seafood in uncomplicated, tasty recipes, combined with the range of vegetables grown on the hillsides shielding the Adriatic. Abruzzo cuisine continues to advance, taking cautious, measured steps in the direction of modernity without sacrificing its true identity, the “truth” of flavours and tradition.
